To stop the flow of anxious thoughts and worry in stressful situations, focus on deep breathing, ground yourself in the present moment, and gently redirect your attention to a simple physical sensation or task.

In conditions of constant information overload and the high speed of life, anxiety states have become one of the most common problems. When something unexpected happens, it is important to understand how to stop anxious thoughts before they escalate into panic.

In a stressful situation, the mind begins to replay negative scenarios, intensifying anxiety and the feeling of losing control.

The longer you remain in this state, the more the vortex of chaos spirals. Terrible scenarios of events begin to play out in the mind, attracting new troubles like a snowball.

Awareness shuts off, and you fall into a victim state.

In this article, we offer several methods that will help stop the flow of anxious thoughts and emotions and return to a neutral state.

How to stop anxious thoughts in a stressful situation

1. Prayer as a way to stop the internal dialogue

In a stressful situation, the connection with higher aspects is broken, and you become “just a person” again.

At this level, spiritual practices do not work; only prayer works. Therefore, read any prayer you know, for example, “Our Father…” or pray in your own words.

The goal is to disconnect the mind from disturbing images and panicked thoughts that it throws up.

2. Invocation of Archangel Michael

If you feel fear or a threat to life, invoke Archangel Michael.

There is a fairly simple invocation that is easy to remember and reproduce in a critical moment:

“Michael ahead, Michael behind,

Michael to the right, Michael to the left, Michael above,

Michael below, Michael, Michael — everywhere I go!”

I AM his Love, protecting here!

I AM his Love, protecting here!

I AM his Love, protecting here!»

3. Mantra for calming the mind «Om Mani Padme Hum»

Chanting or reciting the mantra «Om Mani Padme Hum» will help stop anxious thoughts.

There are many versions of its performance on the internet. For example, I like the version presented in this material. But you can choose what resonates more with you.

When a feeling of anxiety overcomes me, I chant it to myself until it becomes easier.

You can sing your favorite mantra that helps you enter a more or less balanced state.

4. Purification with the violet flame

The violet flame has transmuting properties. Transmutation is the transformation of one state into another.

The practice of invocation can and should be used in moments when you are overwhelmed by negative emotions.

Essentially, you take dense, inert, unbalanced, often destructive energy and transform it with the help of the violet flame into pure light.

The first method is the decree. I use a phrase from the book by Elizabeth Clare Prophet: «I am a being of the violet flame. I am the purity God desires.»

Repeat this phrase several times until you feel this transmutation, this transformation into pure light inside. If visualization is difficult for you, this method is yours.

The second method is visualization

Imagine a huge column of violet flame rising up from under your feet. It completely surrounds you and slowly begins to rise upward from beneath your feet.

The flame rises above your head, and you stand in it, bathing in this energy.

You can combine the decree and visualization. “I am the being of the violet flame. I am the purity desired by God.” And imagine the violet fire rising from under your feet.

Oscillations occur between the particles of the violet flame and between the cells of the body.

Your task is to help the body. Moreover, you are helping not only the physical body, but also the emotional body, the mental body, and the spiritual bodies. You are helping yourself to recover quickly.

5. Hawaiian Practice of Ho’oponopono for Reducing Anxiety

Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian healing practice described in Joe Vitale’s book “Life Without Limits.”

It consists of four simple phrases:

  1. “Please forgive me” — you acknowledge your responsibility for the situation.
  2. “I am so sorry” — this phrase helps you realize your responsibility, rather than just blaming others.
  3. “Thank you” — you thank the situation and/or the person for the opportunity for growth.
  4. “I love you” — by saying this phrase, you choose light, harmony, and connect with the Universe.

The practice helps cleanse the conscious and subconscious mind of negativity and initiates transformative processes.

It can be used with the intention of changing your life by saying it every day.

And in stressful, critical situations, it will help stop anxious thoughts and shift your consciousness from the vector of fear to higher vibrations.

Repeat these four phrases until you feel relief, until you sense this shift — you have let go of the situation and trusted in higher powers.

You can use a simplified version; for example, I often repeat: “I forgive! I thank! I let go!”

6. Breathing practices

In a stressful situation, your heart rate usually quickens, and your breathing becomes shallow.

Your task is to calm down and return to a balanced, neutral state. To do this, you need to slow down.

Use any breathing practices you know, or the ones provided below.

A simple method — take a deep breath, hold it for a couple of seconds, and then — a deep exhale. Focus on your breathing and internal sensations.

Repeat the cycle 2-3 times.

Second option. Take a deep breath from the center of your chest (from the heart chakra), hold your breath, and on the exhale, direct the energy downward to the solar plexus chakra. Repeat the cycle two more times.

The solar plexus chakra is responsible for willpower and discipline. In a stressful situation, this chakra becomes hyperactive. A side effect of this is anxiety.

By directing energy from the heart chakra, you add harmony and love to the solar plexus chakra, reducing anxiety.

Two phrases that will help restore a state of mindfulness

When you have more or less calmed down, it is important to refocus and let go of the death grip — stop clinging to the outcome, surrender the situation to higher powers.

  • The author of the first phrase is Carl Friedrich Oetinger, and it goes like this: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

You have surely come across this phrase. It works well when you need to accept a situation.

  • The second phrase is a mantra from the Cosmic Law of Spirit: “Everything I need to know, everything I need to have, everything I need to be, will come exactly at the right time.”

It allows you to calm the mind, trust the flow of life, and realize that everything will turn out for the best for all participants in the situation.

Repeat one of the phrases that resonates with you as many times as needed until you feel relief.

And to generally have fewer states where you fall into anxiety and worry, try to remain in at least a neutral state every day, strengthen your connection with spirit, for example through basic practices.
