It’s interesting how the field has been working lately: a request comes in, you focus on it, and voilà — something starts to shift…
A question flew into my stories about how to pass a driving exam. I shared how I did it when I was learning to drive. One.
Maris once again vented his frustration about us wasting time on trips when he gets tired, because after 8 years of living in Latvia, I’ve already “forgotten” how to drive. Two.
And then we’re heading out on a short trip, and I — ON MY OWN — feel the desire to get behind the wheel?! Three.
Learning to drive a car and getting my license was part of a larger intention to buy a Nissan X-trail. What would I do with a car when it showed up if I didn’t know how to drive, I thought, and went off to sign up for driving school.
⚠ I welcomed the new year of 2007 with a “crispy new” driver’s license 🎄🎄🎄
For four years, I drove my father’s Lada 2108 (I still can’t believe he trusted me with it). And six months before meeting Maris, I bought myself a Lada Kalina from a dealership.
For a whole 330,000 rubles (~$11,000 USD at 2010-2011 rate)!!! (My first money saved from translations)
I didn’t dare buy a used car, and I couldn’t afford an imported one without a loan (and you remember my attitude toward loans — it was already like that back then), so I went to the dealership and picked the most fully-loaded little car 😀
It even had climate control. Russian-style 😉
And six months later, Maris came to Oryol… and took over the honorable duty of driving me around…
I only got behind the wheel on long trips, of which there weren’t that many in the first 2 years of living in Oryol.
And then we moved to Riga, and in the 8 years of living here, I’ve literally driven a couple of times.
About two years ago, Maris even hired an instructor so I could rebuild my driving skills. I drove a couple of times and that was it.
Too much tension in my body… I react way too sharply to other drivers’ intentions…
And then suddenly this long-forgotten desire to get behind the wheel 🥳
Naturally, I grabbed hold of it?!
Those who were born to drive probably won’t understand me…
But if you’ve ever had situations in your life where you experienced a powerful freeze or desperate resistance to doing something — try again! Especially if you’ve seen a double sign, like in my case.
Maybe it’s time to rewrite your story with a more successful ending.
Our traumatized past is being erased, and everyone has the opportunity to “paint” a new reality OUTSIDE of trauma, while still keeping the experience you’ve gained.
👉 Has anyone else noticed shifts where you used to get seriously stuck? Share your stories in the comments, let’s inspire the rest!
P.S. This week, Maris even fell asleep in the car while I was driving 🙃
He said, life is precious, but sleep is more precious 🙃
