Will we have enough wisdom?

I first heard this composition on November 12th during Janos’s presentation…

The song lyrics, accompanied by Janos’s art, made an indelible impression on me.

Lou Rhodes (lead singer of Lamb):

When you have a fragile idea for a powerful song, it’s hard to figure out what to do with it next. Tension arises, you’re afraid of ruining it, making it formal, standard, and Lamb is not standard music. In that sense, we had problems with “Wise Enough.”

But the chorus, by the way, wrote itself. It seemed to come from nowhere. As if that’s how it had to be said. And the rest of the song developed around the chorus. We managed to preserve the message. Life is a very precious thing, and it is short. Everyone is challenged to decide what to do with their life.

“Wise Enough” was created through struggle. But such a song had to happen, had to be born.

From an interview with Lamb in Kyiv

WISE ENOUGH — Lamb

I had a dream that all of time was running dry
and life was like a comet falling from the skyI woke so frightened in the dawning, oh, so clear
How precious is the time we have here

Are we not wise enough to give all we are?
Surely we’re bright enough to outshine the stars
The human kind gets so lost in finding its way
but we have a chance to make a difference til our dying day

And you might pray to God, or say it’s Destiny
But I think we are just hiding all that we can be

Are we not wise enough to give all we are?
Surely we’re bright enough to outshine the stars
The human kind gets so lost in finding its way
but we have a chance to make a difference til our dying day

All I’m really asking is: what are we doing here?
Are we just killing time? Just living year to year?

In this big world, no one else can play our part
Ain’t it time to just wake up and give it all

Are we not wise enough to give all we are?
Surely we’re bright enough to outshine the stars
The human kind gets so lost, and in finding its way
we have a chance to make a difference til our dying day

we have a chance to make a difference til our dying day
we have a chance to make a difference til our dying day

All I’m asking is: what are we doing here?
Just killing time? Just living year after year?

In this big world, no one else can play our role
Isn’t it time to wake up and give our all?

Will we have enough wisdom to show all that we are?
Surely we are bright enough to outshine the stars
Humankind is so lost in searching for its way
But we have a chance to make the world better until the day we die

We have a chance to make the world better until the day we die
We have a chance to make the world better until the day we die
