Why desires don’t come true. The thermostat metaphor.

Have you ever had it happen where you set a goal for yourself, dream about something, but when you start moving in that direction, a kind of spinning your wheels occurs? You seem to have made some progress, but in the end, it’s like “the cart is still stuck in the same place.”

This causes annoyance, disappointment, and sometimes a feeling of injustice and powerlessness. I am a creator, why can’t I make it happen?

We’ve partially looked at the reasons for this phenomenon on the project before. And today, we suggest looking at it from a different angle, using a metaphor.

Read on to find out why desires don’t come true.

Who Controls Your Desires

The paradox of this phenomenon lies in the fact that our mind consists of 2 parts: the conscious and the unconscious.

The conscious part is aware of the processes happening in life, while the subconscious is precisely that mysterious world that dictates our behavior, controls our desires, possibilities, and so on.

When you set a certain goal, declare the realization of some intention, say what you want, your conscious part is working. And you can fully believe in this: “Yes, I want this.” This is your intellect, the intellectual part of your brain.

But the process of manifestation, fulfillment, and realization of everything planned in life is handled by a completely different part of the brain — our subconscious.

Our subconscious part, without exception, is programmed to repeat a certain situation over and over again, so that in the future you will live the way you lived before.

Have you ever encountered that short-term manifestations and desires come true, but when you set a global goal or task, you start spinning your wheels, and end up disappointed?

Of course, there are also those who don’t have this in their lives at all. Applause in their honor.

If this applies to you, it means there is no difference between your conscious and subconscious parts.

The Thermostat Metaphor

Let’s use the example of a thermostat metaphor to understand why desires don’t come true.

Thermostats are built into air conditioners, built into the climate control in cars, and in other mechanisms. You set a certain temperature, and as soon as the air temperature in the room drops below the set value, the thermostat kicks in.

All our subconscious programs work in roughly the same way.

For example, you declared that you want to earn from $10,000 a month, are ready to live on the ocean shore, in your own villa with a pool, and so on.

Or you declared that you want to let a man into your life — reliable, understanding, open, faithful, who will always support you and also provide for you materially.

When you declared all this, your conscious part of the brain was working. As soon as you proclaimed it, another, subconscious part of the brain comes into action.

This is where the subconscious program kicks in, which at the very first action returns everything back to the set temperature, for example, to 25 degrees Celsius. This analogy helps very well to understand and see how it happens in life.

As long as this set parameter in the subconscious does not change, everything in life will happen exactly the opposite, or you simply will not get the results you wanted.

How to Change the Parameters Set by the Subconscious

Life is a reflection of everything that happens within. That’s why we sometimes encounter insurmountable obstacles on our path, and unpleasant sensations arise inside, telling us we urgently need to stop and go back to how things were.

Many of you have been through this, for example, when you tried to change jobs. You left being an employee, working for someone else, and tried to build something on your own, start your own business. But there are no clients, no results, no significant financial gains, only constant disappointments.

And then thoughts appear: “Maybe I should go back?”, “Maybe I was heading in the wrong direction?”

All these questions arise when the thermostat kicks in — it pulls you back.

Therefore, before doing anything, you need to change the subconscious program.

Take the Meditation “Meeting Your Future Self” to feel the state when your most cherished dream has already come true and to imprint it into the cells of your body.

Determine Your Starting Point

The first step toward change is to determine where you are.

Honestly look at your life, and you will clearly see what you should do but are not doing.

You will understand that you are sabotaging the fulfillment of your desires and goals precisely because of these subconscious programs. And this sabotage arises because you realize that to bring your intention to life, you will have to overcome and change a lot within yourself. This is also tied to a feeling of uncertainty about whether you deserve it.

But if you want big results, then your level of awareness of what is happening must be higher. Ask yourself, what results do you have at this moment?

These are the steps, the actions you took in the past that brought you here. This is your current level of awareness.

If you want to move to another level, to another step, you need a different level of awareness.

For example, there is the level of “I am unemployed,” and you want your own business.

There are many steps from one point to the other. It’s a different mentality, a different level of consciousness, a different level of ongoing processes, different habits.

Compare yourself as a teenager (music, views, books, behavior, slang words, and so on) with yourself now. These are two different levels, two different perceptions of what’s happening, as if two different people.

It’s the same in our example — these are two completely different realities. What is the person like who owns their own business? What are their views, habits, worldview, and behavior?

Describe, preferably in writing, your current reality, where you are, and the reality you want to enter.

Rewrite the Limiting Program

How do you get into this reality? You need to switch the set temperature on the thermostat — rewrite the limiting program in your subconscious mind with specific steps and actions.

We have already written about this many times in our materials. Check out the thematic collection “How to Make Your Dream Come True.”

Every time you see people living the way you want to live, activate a new paradigm: “Yes, this is possible, I am worthy, and I can do it.”

Catch that desired feeling, anchor it within yourself, in every cell of your body, anchor it and keep your focus on it.

We covered this topic in detail in the article “The Mastery of Creation. Stages of Manifesting an Intention.”

Do you often encounter the thermostat principle when manifesting your intentions? What programs pull you back?
